In October, Sarah Waters was awarded the 2017 Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence, which is given in recognition of a writer’s entire body of work. Awarded since 1987, when Anthony Burgess first accepted it, it has since been awarded to Ted Hughes, Seamus Heaney, Margaret Atwood, Muriel Spark, Tom Stoppard, Ian McEwan, Kazuo Ishiguro and Anne Tyler to name a few.
